I got a new hamster. his name is Antonio (Ann-tony-oh). Tinsel and Pikori will be missed.

RIP Tinsel 2/19/11. He died because he got Wet Tail.

Hamster Tips. Running on the wheel

Here is a tip to getting hamsters that don't run on the wheel to use it. I did it to my hamster Tinsel.

He would never use his wheel, and if he did, he only did it for 10 seconds then got of. He never really gave it a chance. So today I was washing the hamster wheel in the cage; While I was waiting for it to dry I started to play with Tinsel. Then I remembered the wheel so I went out to get it. I was still holding Tinsel so I couldn't hold up the hand towel. Thats when I put my hamster on the wheel. He ran only a bit but wouldn't com out because the sides were wet. i noticed that so I held the bottom of the wheel on my hand and gave him a small treat. After that he started running & running. After 15 minutes I put him back into his cage, he ran around a bit then fell asleep. Here's how.

1. Take the wheel out of your cage. Put your hamster onto the wheel and let the wheel be on your hand. Hold the side if necessary.

2. See your hamster moving around but not running. He can't get out of the wheel because you will have your hand over it if s/he tries to get out.

3. Give a small treat. (a few bites)

4. Watch him/her run.

Disclaimer: I'm not sure if this works on other types of hamsters but its worth a try right?
